Welcome to Bottoms Up Diaper Service. We are a privately owned and operated business, delivering the comfort of cloth diapers to Chicagoland and Southeastern Wisconsin. Providing a more environmentally friendly alternative to disposables is a passion for us. We invite you to join us and do your part to help the environment while benefiting your children as well.
Why use cloth diapers?
Use cloth diapers for your baby's health:
In 1955, before modern disposable diapers were sold and consumed, it was estimated that 7% of babies and toddlers suffered from diaper rash. In 1991, long after plastic disposable diapers dominated the market, that percentage jumped to 78%.
Use cloth diapers for the environment:
Cloth diapers are the only sustainable, recyclable and reusable choice in diapering. The choice of cloth diapers helps relieve pressure on our working forests and the world's fossil fuel supply. One child in disposable diapers will require 20 trees, 420 gallons of petroleum and generate one ton of garbage. Single-use diapers represent between 2% to 4% of solid waste in our nation's landfills, and the emissions of carbon dioxide and methane from landfills are major contributors to global warming. It is estimated that it takes up to 500 years for a single-use diaper to decompose. That means every disposable diaper ever made is still in a landfill somewhere!
Use cloth diapers because of the cost:
Studies show that a child in cloth diapers will potty train 6 months to a year earlier than a child in single-use diapers, thereby saving your family hundreds of dollars! Therefore, on average, cloth diapering will be less costly than single-use diapers.
Use cloth diapers because they are convenient:
Our service is easy and convenient. We bring the diapers directly to you, relieving you of the need to run to the store for diapers. Cloth diapering has now become easier than ever, due to the addition of cloth diapering accessories.
Use cloth diapers and support your community:
When you use a local diaper service, you not only benefit the global community by using a sustainable form of diapering, but you also contribute to the local community. Since we are a local employer and use the maximum number of local suppliers, your money stays in the local economy, benefiting our communities and neighbors. Any other type of single-use diaper directs money out of our state and does little to benefit our community.
What's So Special about Cotton Diapers?
Cotton is a natural fiber that allows a baby's skin to breathe. Air circulates around your baby's skin, keeping it as dry as possible. This, plus the special germ fighter in professionally laundered diapers, helps to keep baby free of painful diaper rash and possible infection. Because cotton is a natural absorber, it soaks up fluid and distributes it throughout the diaper. While cotton diapers may sometimes feel wetter, this just indicates that the diaper needs to be changed. Many otherwise conscientious parents allow their babies to sit in unhealthy, uncomfortable, and soiled disposable diapers, simply because they can't tell that their baby is wet.
Using a diaper service instead of laundering at home, offers you the convenience of disposables without adding to our landfills. Instituting service with us is easy and affordable. Click here to find out more.
Using cloth diapers instead of disposables is an important part of the environmental motto of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Diapering through Bottoms Up accomplishes all three activities. Bottoms Up reduces the amount of material entering our landfills by not creating the mountains of waste generated by paper diapers. Bottoms Up reuses cloth diapers repeatedly, yet ensures that each diaper is sanitized, comfortable, and safe to use on your baby. Finally, Bottoms Up diapers that are no longer fit to use on babies are fashioned into rags for detail shops, beauty salons, and other businesses who need the benefits of cotton, but who don't need brand new diapers. With paper diapers, they're used once, and sent to the landfill, often loaded with raw sewage that can potentially seep into the groundwater.
